before the end of the summer. I have a few trips
planned for the next 2 months, and won't have a lot of
time for experimenting. And of course, if YOU do it,
we'll want to hear from you...

Subject: Float angle vs Cruise Speed
I mounted Howard's at 2.6* last fall as
well. He was about 2.1 before if I
remember correctly, but I never asked him if
he picked up any speed.
As for FOKM, it was mounted pretty flat on
the 1500's (less than 2* to the
belly I'm sure) so now with it going to 2.6*
in flight the floats are now
slightly nose down in level flight cruise. I
have the feeling that this
makes them similar to putting the flaperons
in reflex and takes some lift
out of the floats (the air is now seeing a
wedge shape........ instead of
the air hitting more under the nose of the
floats when they were flatter).
Less lift = less drag = higher cruise!! It's
a fair amount too, as it only
did about 92 to 94 MPH with the wheels up on
the 1500's and now it's happy
to do 100mph.
If you drop a bolt down on the back to check
things out let us know what
happens to your speed Walter!! When I did
Howard's I thought I would have to
make new rear X-cables, but really the
overall distance doesn't change more
than 1/16ths of an inch by dropping a full
hole and all I had to do was
loosen the TB's to drop and then tighten
back up and safety.
Cheers,
Wayne

higher cruiseHmmm, very interesting that you observedwould havewith more negative angle on your floats. Iconsideringthought it would be the other way around. Mine are
about -2.5 (as best I can measure) and wasshould put themlowering the rear struts one hole whichtake off due tocloser to -3. That may further improvesweet spot onthe higher angle of attack when at theHoward's to -2.9 orwater. However, it was my understanding that the
trade-off was slower cruise because of more drag.
Did I see a past post where you setmore performanceso? Do you know what happened to his cruise?
I am pretty happy with both my take off and cruise
right now, but am always interested in*--------------------------------------------if it can be had.

Flies like a dream and
is even quicker now in cruise
with the floats mounted at -2.6* to the
belly vs a much flatter mount when
it was on the "1500's".
