This is a little off topic, but I'll take sysadmin priviledge here. ;-)
This last weekend I ran a aviation day camp for 10-14 year old kids. The
camp was conducted by our local R/C airplane club. The kids all had classes
on basic aerodynamics and model building, and got several flights on the
buddy box with a club instructor among other things. The highlight of the
weekend for me though was late Saturday night when the sky cleared up and
the wind died down and I finally flew the float plane I've been building for
the last 3 years. This is a large model, 78 5/8 inch wing span, and the
setting was just perfect. I've uploaded two photos to the float
installation area on the archive site. One photo is of me holding the model
on our dock, the second photo is the real reason I even bothered... it is of
the float plane on approach to our lake with the Alaska mountain range lit
up by the midnight sun... just beautiful. When I look at this picture, I
know exactly why I'm building a Murphy aircraft. You can't tell it's a
model in this picture, and I think most of you will see in it part of why
you're a pilot. I feel very lucky my friend was able to catch this moment
for me.
Mike

Terrific weekend of flying

Mike,
Yes that is one heck of a nice picture. That's going up in my garage to keep
me on track at the workbench.
Thanks a lot,
