Gill SR2500 Maiden Float Voyage

Post by rebel » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:08 pm

All,

I just posted four photos to the Super Rebel and Moose section '56-S
Aircraft'. These are photos of our Super Rebel on new Montana 3500 straight
floats. (one photo is accidentally huge and the rest are normal byte size).
(If you read this Mike Davis you can go ahead and delete the one big file).

Keith from Montana Float company and his two helpers, Mike and Wilbur, came up
to AK a few weeks ago and strapped these puppies on in two days. I have flown
5 hours so far and am very happy with the way these floats perform. I can't
compare them to Edo's or other floats as my lifetime float experience is
approximately 10 hours including the aforementioned 5 hours, but first
impressions are pretty awsome. Keith from Montana float who was along on the
first flight was of the same opinion.

The floats easily get up on step and are off the water faster than I
expected. The sweet spot seems to be much wider than I remember from my
previous Cub flights, and landings (to date) have been effortless. We are
flying behind 250HP and have flown close to gross already.

If life gets any better than this I don't know how. And for the record, my
experience with Keith, his company, and his floats have been 100% positive.
He really went out of his way to take care of us.

Congrats Chris... took care of that extra file for you. Are we ever going to
be graced with a visit from niner-six-five here in Fairbanks? Had to ask.

Gill SR2500 Maiden Float Voyage

Post by Don Boardman » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:08 pm

Hi Chris,

Just returned from the Speculator Seaplane Fly In here in the Adirondack
Mtns. of NY. all excited about getting back to work on our Moose. Reading
your email I quickly checked out the pictures and got even more pumped up.

Congratulations! Congratulations! Congratulations! Congratulations!

Randy and I are working hard to be able to experience the excitement and
pride you must feel about what you have accomplished. We hope our first
flight occurs before the snow flies here in NY.
Thanks for posting the pictures, they help to keep us focused on our dream.

I would also like to say that working with Keith at Montana floats has been
a pleasure. We just received the rigging for our Aerocet 3500 amphibs that
Keith put together for us. He was kind enough to mate a pair of Aerocets he
borrowed from the factory some 70 miles away to his Moose. Keith was willing
to do this even though our floats were from one of his competitors. I find
this commendable. Keith has the most experience of anyone when it comes to
rigging floats to a Moose. Tom Hamilton of Aerocet who inspected the rigging
said that he could not have been happier with Keith's work and that he was
VERY impressed.

It was also encouraging to hear that with 5 hours float time prior to your
first flight you found the SR and float combination presented no surprises.

Once again Congratulations!!!!
