This is possibly true except for the fact that you will not find multi
strand aluminum wire (yes it is stranded but not as many as copper)the
multiple strands (lots of them )are what give the copper its flexibility as
well as the anealing process it goes through .I'm no expert but I do work
with both copper and aluminum wire on a daily basis.

Dave, I have to agree with you about the ALU. cables. My 72' ARROW had ALU.
cables and piper came out with a SB to remove them because of all the
problems that had started to surface. Fires at the battery and smoke at the
fire wall because of loose connections. Changed mine out to copper, size 0,
in 92'. What a world of difference in cranking power and also got my 14.2
volts back up at the panel, could not get above 12.5 before. It's not worth
the saving of a few pounds to put in ALU (IMHO)

That goop you see the hydro crews putting on the ends of the aluminum wire
is a contact paste ( anti oxidant )
There are various manufacturers ie; Ideal, NoAlox , Kearney as well as many
others .As others have stated make sure you use a connector specificaly
designed for Al and follow the manufaturers directions on the prduct you are
using (some say coat the connector and wire others say to wire brush the
paste into the wire....... Just my two bits, but I personally would stay
away from aluminum wire in any area that is subject to vibration as it WILL
work harden and fail over time. Not trying to stick my nose into anybodies
buisness but I watched my dad spend 9 years building his Christavia and
would hate to see someone lose their plane to fire from trying to save a few
pounds . sorry if I have offended any aluminum users as I said Just my two
bits
(thats just a little over 2 cents to you American guys once we add freight
s/h and the exchange lol )

In watching the local electrical service company install the aluminum wire
connection from the pole to the meter I noticed them covering the connection
with some kind of paste. Must be an anti oxidizer of some kind. Anybody have
an idea? I'll look too. It's gotta help. Curt N97MR
