Time keeping software

Post by mike.davis » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:02 pm

Maybe it's just me, but I've found that since I started working on my kit I
have not been able to keep track accurately of the time I am spending on it.
This is mostly due to the fact that even when I do remember to look at my
watch when I start working, I often don't remember that time once I am ready
to stop working for the session. I started out writing my start and stop
times in the log, but I'm often so eager to get started I just plain forget.

Anyway, being the computer geek that I am, I decided to look for a free
program that would keep track of my time for me. I have found a program that
does this very well... you still have to remember to hit the start/stop
button, but since I am also configuring a webcam that will automatically take
pictures every X minutes while I am working and upload them to the archive
database for me, I'm sure I'll remember to do this.

I thought this software may be of interest to other builders, so I've uploaded
it to the software area of the archives.

Mike

Time keeping software

Interesting idea... The most fun I've had with this software so far was when
I caught my son red handed dancing on the living room coffee table one day
when my wife and I made a quick trip to town (he was supposed to be grounded
to his room at the time). Instead of staying in his room and working on his
homework (what got him grounded in the first place), he checked what was on
the tube, while he had 3 or 4 bags of snacks from the cupboard, and then
danced on the coffee table (I assume to something on the tube!). Imagine his
surprise when I asked him where he had learned that hand on the table feet in
the air move he had done!

He still doesn't know how I knew! ;-)

Time keeping software

Hey Mike,

I don't presume to know where you do your work on the project, but
here's a very simple suggestion. If you go into a room or area where
you have to turn on lights so you can work, then get an older electric
analog clock that runs while the lights are on. Sort of a Hobbs
meter.

Take care.
