The overhaul time is 2400 hrs. This is a significant advantage over the MT
and others. The Hartzell also uses oil pressure to make coarse pitch, where
the aerobatic props use oil pressure to make fine pitch. I do not have
thrust info. I did the test flying for Hartzell in a Yak-52. We took off an
MTV-9 to do the testing. I did not see any significant difference in the
take off/climb/vertical performance between the props. Unfortunately, we did
not see the increase in cruise speed we were hoping for.

Scott,

The guys at MT say using their props on a float planes is not a problem.
They are certified for use in rain and even icing conditions if so equipped.
Reverse pitch is available for those who need it. This requires a reverse
kit and new governor along with the prop/spinner assembly. The overhaul time
for MT propellers is matched to that of the engine. MT currently lists the
O/H time for the MTV9 on an M14P at 750 hrs. as this is the official O/H time
listed by the Russian engine factory. As I understand it, the Romanian
engine factory lists the TBO as 1500 hrs. The guys at MT have said that they
will extend the O/H time on the prop to 1500hrs as soon as a few engines have
reached that amount of time. Basically, these props are made just like the
MT units that have 2000-2500 hr TBOs. It is more of an issue of making sure
the prop gets overhauled when the engine does to avoid and cross
contamination of one to the other. Overhaul and inspection of the MT is not
that expensive compared to the rest of the airplane. If I recall correctly,
$750-1000 if the blades do not need repairs.

It is interesting that the MT showed lower indicated speeds on the Yak 52/55.
We have found that same 3-5kt increase in speed with the 2.5m Mt over the
2.4m V-530. We found that the 2.6m MT lost 3-5kts from the 2.5m MT speeds
which puts it about the same speed as the V-530 but with lots more climb and
vertical performance.
