Moose h-stab main spar caps

Post by mike.davis » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:01 pm

I'll be riveting my stab together this weekend, and I was wondering if there
were any tricks to getting the main spar doublers (W-139, ST-313) to stay in
place while you're trying to get the skin back on the frame. Right now I'm
just planning to chromate and cleco in place about 1/2 an hour before I'm
ready to start, this should give the epoxy time to set up enough to hold them
in place until the skin and clecoes are put back in place.

Another question I have is with the 3500 upgrade there are 4 additional
external doublers on the stab. The instructions tell you to rivet using the
stab rivet map to determine final sizes. All the rivet map tells you is 1/8
or 5/32. The 1/8 I'm sure will be RV-1410 rivets... but what will the 5/32
rivets be? I haven't used any 5/32 up to this point.

Thanks, Mike
195SR

Thanks Wayne... I think I see a pattern here. The second number looks like it
must be the rivet diameter in 32nds.

RV1410 4/32 or 1/8
RV1512 5/32
RV1613 6/32 or 3/16

It would have been nice if the 3500 upgrade adendum had an inventory for each
chapter like the 2500 manual does... but then, the manual has already been
beat up enough hasn't it?

Thanks, Mike

You've got it right on both counts Mike!!

I'm heading out flying (since as of 10 minutes ago I have Howard and Tim'y
both ready to go back to the lake) so I can remember how for Saturday when I
have to fly 9 or 10 kids in a row. Will have a look for my rivet list when I
get back in!

Mike, found my rivet counting sheet from when I gave Brian G the real
numbers required (the best I could count and estimate anyhow!!) to do the
upgrades from a 2500 to a 3500.

The kit I have also came with 250 RV4512(actual bag count onluy 238!! -
bet
I'll need those 12!)) counter sunk rivets and they are the only other 5/32
besides the RV1512's. These are used anywhere that you have a fairing
sitting against the surface and I ignored them when I did the count to get
all the builders more rivets free of charge (since the upgrade kits were
drastically short!).

I counted the need for 2764 - RV1512 for performing the upgrades from 2500
to 3500 and only 2200 were supplied by MAM. This should be cleared up by
now
and shipping correct amounts but never be too sure!

I counted the need for 767 RV1613's and only 525 were supplied leaving
about
242 short BUTTTTTTTT I forgot to count the number required to upgrade the
side panel upgrade for the longer doublers at the top motor mount to door
post doubler. Not a big deal if you haven't installed it yet, but anyone
that was doing upgrades post installation of these parts will need even
more
RV1613's

I had Brian add 600 x RV1512's to the 3500 upgrade packing list and 300 x
RV1613's, as well as a dozen RV4412's. I didn't bother counting the
RV1410's
but these were most likely short as well. I hoped, like the Rebel, that
the
bulk boxes of RV1410's would leave enough extras in the end to clear up
any
discrepancy there!

Have fun! I got 1.6hrs of flying in and did a local Trumpter Swan count,
for
nesting birds, while I was at it!
