Stick travel on Elite

Post by Ralph Baker » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:59 pm

A quick eyeball (we are not rigged yet) has me wondering if I will need
to shorten the sticks so they will go under the lower panel edge in
order to get enough throw for +/- 25 degrees at the elevator. The lever
arm at the control column is 1 3/4" and at the elevator 3 1/4" so the
stick will have to travel many more degrees. And, this is without
considering the geometry change during the stick throw. Has this been a
problem for anyone else?
Thanks,
Ralph Baker

Stick travel on Elite

Ralph, I generally end up cutting a small amont off the sticks to clear the
switches on the left instrument panel face, but not the middle section. You
don't need 25* nose down elevator for anything, so just set you stops as
required so the sticks don't bang the panel. 10 or 15* nose down is more
than you will ever need for anything. I use full forward stick to briefly
lift the tailwheel out of the snow to taxi, but for nothing else. Even
negative G "rollercoaster" rides for the kids only require about 3 inches of
quick forward stick motion!! ;o)

Cheers,
Wayne O'Shea
