Is the Fus-35 .040"?? I thought it was only .032" but you are probably
right. Brings them within 8 thou of each other if it's indeed .040 and the
SG-2's seemed to clamp nice and even with this set up. The big secret was
the "end" shim, the same thickness of the floor pan, to make it all start
out right!

came on. I had been thinking about extending the fus452 to be completely

the saddle out to the ends of the carrythrus but with the fus 35s, this

would

have been too many thicknesses.

As far as the manuel goes, I realized very quickly how much it lacked in
detail when I started making the same errors trying to correct the

mistakes

the two previous owners made. One had gotten as far as the ailerons and

the

other tried to assemble some of the tail group. It led me down the same

trail

to a mistake.

For turning the fuse over, I clamp a shouldered piece of 2 X 2 that

extends

beyond the roof to both sides. Does the same thing.

Wanye, I assembled the left fus 35 last nite and it all worked out pretty
well. The other thing that was confusing me with the explanations I was
getting was that I left the floor pan full width. I don't need a shim for the
outer ends as it sompletely covers the carrythrus. Any need to beef up fus
8, the upper skin from inst. pannel to firewall? I see everything from "v"
struts to a bunch of angles everywhere! I have all known mods for floats plus
a bit more. Thanks again and yes yr pictures were priceless. The only
pictures I could find anywhere and they really helped.

Steve, sounds like your firewall is the original positon and not cut back
3"! GREAT IMHO! That is the only way your floor pan would cover the entire
carrythrough. The shims are required if you have cut back 3", to fill the
area left by the floor pan getting narrower at the carrythrough if it has
been moved back 3". On both aircraft that I have worked on with the spring
gear, the firewall was moved back 3" per customer request and I never even
thought about that when I uploaded the pics and descriptions!

The top deck Fus-8, between the instrument panel and the firewall, needs at
least a piece of ST-31 installed at the center area to mount the compass to,
or it will bounce all over the place.

You also should install a semi-circle gusset on the Fus-8's (about 2 1/2"
radius) at the area where the panel turns back on each side. This corner
area, where the panel flange is missing, likes to buckle from one wheel
landings if it's not reinforced. :o(
