MK14 Prop

I was wondering why Murphy chose to use the 2 Blade wooden prop versus the MT - 3
blade?

It makes sense to me that the torque from the 3 blade would be much better
distributed therefore putting less stress on the rest of the plane but I am a
beginner and I am willing to listen to the debate.

The M14 conversion Murphy did was under a very tight time frame. The 3 blade
MT was weeks out while the 2 blade beaver paddle was cheap and readily
available and it works. Doesn't it ???? I'll let you know in a few months. We
will have our MT out for a try. MT says we won't believe the diff in takeoff,
climb, cruise to the beaver paddle. They claim something near 30% more
thrust.

Most likely, the 2 blade was chosen because it is the least expensive of the
various props that are available. Current prices on the 2 blade are around
$4000-$4500 USD and they are becoming pretty rare. There are several props
to choose from other than the Vperod V-530 2 blade Russian unit. These other
props include the 3 blade MTV9, 3 blade Hoffmann and 3 blade Hartzell. Of
these, I think the MT is the least expensive. They go for under $12k with
spinner and flange adapter. The Hoffman has been slightly more money than
the MT in the past. The Hartzell is a new item and George Coy knows more
about it than I do. I think it has alum blades and requires a different
governor. I don't know how much it costs but I have heard it is more money
than the MT. The, MT and Hoffmann both have wood core composite blades. The
94" diameter 2 blade V-530 prop is capable of producing 1320 pounds of static
thrust on an M14P. The 94" diameter Hoffmann 3 blade make approx 1450lb of
static thrust. The 98.5" diameter 3 blade MT produces 1560lb of static
thrust. A 102" diameter MT 3 blade produces 1640 lb of static thrust. These
are actual measured values mot theoretical. If you wish to have more info on
