Commercial Offers

Post by mike.davis » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:42 pm

I have been approached about how best to present commercial offers to you the
members of the Murphy Rebel Builders List. Since this list was never really
intended for that kind of thing, and I'm sure nobody wants it to be abused...
I was thinking about a separate list called "rebel-commercial-offers". Just
like the current list, participation would be strictly voluntary, and free.
This would give those parties interested in posting offers a venue in which to
do it. And for any of you builders interested in receiving these offers, it's
as simple as signing up for the list, or checking the archives on Maddog! BBS.

Another option is to just continue posting commercial offers to this list as
we have done in the past. Wayne, Dave, and George have all shared some good
deals with us in the past. I don't feel that they have abused the list to
their advantage... but perhaps a separate list dedicated to that topic would
encourage them to share even more good deals with everybody interested.

Anyway... let me know what you think about this, and we'll move ahead
accordingly.

Mike

Mike,
Thanks for your concern about the list. I now monitor three lists in
building my Moose. Unless you think we will be swamped with non relevant
commercial offers I would vote to keep it one. If it becomes a problem in
the future then maybe a split at that time.

As always, thanks for your efforts.

Seperate page works. A link on your web site to other web pages for all the
'accessories would be helpful too.'

Wayne G. O'Shea

Commercial Offers

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:42 pm

Guess I am slightly biased, seeing my name popped up, but I prefer it to
stay all on this list. There's always the delete key for those that aren't
interested in Georges's or the Kimball's great offerings, or my own for that
matter. I don't think any of us overly burden the list with sales pitches,
but of course if we start to please do speak up.

On the other hand Mike, if you are being approached on how to present
commercial offers to the Murphy builders from individuals outside the
builder community should any of us be concerned that we will be swamped with
sales pitches, or is it just another builder/retailer that is just asking
for a green light before he/she throws the sales pitch out??

Thanks,
Wayne

Commercial Offers

Post by Mike Davis » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:42 pm

Guess I'll reply to your message Wayne since I've already picked on you
once. ;-)

I haven't been approached by any outside vendors, just folks already on the
list who sell stuff and are concerned about placing "self serving" posts on
the list... I believe they simply do not wish to impose upon everyone.

Of the responses I've recieved so far, besides a couple of individuals that
sell products supporting the idea... only one list member liked the idea...
everyone else says keep it here. It really makes no difference to me, I can
set the new list/archives up in a matter of minutes.

For the moment I guess I would say to those who have offers they want to
share... fire away on this list. If anybody has a problem with that, speak
up... it's easy enough to move else where.

Post by KJKimball » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:42 pm

Mike,

I'd like to share info on available items of interest to Moose builders now
and then. But, without arrows like the last time I posted when I listed an
engine available from one of our customers. For example, I have a customer
who has a V530 2 blade prop for sale that is new in the box. I'd like to
tell the Moose guys about it but I'd hate to get zapped about it. Also, I
would like to get the word out on the fact that Murphy is now recommending
our air start system for the Moose and that we have a US fitting kit for the
engine designed specifically for the moose. We have a new Moose Support page
on our site which shows all the items we offer for the moose.

I guess I could send this type info to you and you could spread the word to
the list. What do you think?

My 2 cents...

Hey, as far as I'm concerned, Wayne can use this list
to sell anything he wants. With the amount this guy has
contributed, Murphy should buy him an airplane! I for
one, have a better airplane because of him, and he is
still coming up with new fixes and ideas for
improvement. Thanks Wayne, and hope you have time for
your own business, too.

I don't have a problem with others using the list to
sell, too, as long as it doesn't get cluttered with
useless or questionable products. Haven't seen that
yet, though.

And thanks to you, too, Mike, for making such a
valuable list available to us.

Kevin, nobody shot "arrows" for you posting the sale items. It was the fact
that you had used a megkb attachment to do so and many are on rural dial ups
and the day is already full without many minute to hour downloads. Plain
text is the key and now that Mike has resoftwared dcsol to strip attachments
and convert all formats to plain text there won't be anymore of those
squawks!

Any of these could be done I suppose... I've added the hot link back to the
list message footer (see below), this was inadvertantly taken out during the
last upgrade. If a separate mailing list was setup, posts there could be
viewed in the archives just like murphy-rebel or rebel-ramble archives are.
But what ever we do it needs to be set up so that parties interested in
sharing a product offering can do so immediately without waiting for my
interaction... this is where posting to a list, this one or another really
shines. And of course... you wouldn't have to subscribe to the list to be
able to view the archives at Maddog! BBS.
