Next Rebel Builders Meeting - Sun. Jan. 12th

Post by Bob Patterson » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:42 pm

It's that time again !!! This weekend !!!

The next Rebel Builders of Ontario Meeting is Sunday, January 12th,
at 1:00 pm. at the RAA-TR Clubhouse at the far north end of Brampton Airport.
(North-West of Toronto, Ontario, Canada) (CNC3)

*************************************************************
You don't want to miss anything, so PLEASE try to BE HERE for 1:00
*************************************************************

There are several builders getting to the stage where they
will need extra hands for assembly. We'll try to help organize a
group of "wing builders", as well as more regular Builder Visits.

We hope that some NEW Rebels will be able to fly in. There are FOUR
NEW Rebels now FLYING - it sure would be GREAT if they can fly in & tell
us ALL about how it feels to fly your own Rebel !! And THREE more now on
AMPHIBS - come on in and show them off !! (Skis might be better now ! ;-) )
(Don't take chances, though - it's not THAT long a drive !
DO drive if you can't fly - we want to see YOU, too !)

There are many nice features on the Rebels that fly in, for those
who missed the last few meetings ...

Dave Fife, (with his <lighted> Hoerner wing tips ??) will be driving
in with Curt Martin, as far as we know. Hope to see them ! I think
Dave is still looking for Moose and Elite builders to help with tip
fitting for those kits - first one gets a deal ! ;-)

If the weather's good, we might see Angus McKenzie's Rebel, with a
new engine, windshield, etc., or maybe he will drive over and bring some
brochures for his STOL kits. He tells me that the McKenzie STOL kits are now
available for the Super Rebel/Moose (about $2,700) - get your orders in ...
(The McKenzie STOL kit for the Rebel/Elite is still only $1,800 USD. )
Maybe Wayne O'Shea will bring down some goodies for us to buy - again,
IF the weather will co-operate !

Keep working on that Rebel, 'cause we're planning a "BIG ONE"
(Rebel Ramble that is !) for 2003 - the plan is to dip a toe in BOTH Oceans !!
(Well, alright - TWO out of the THREE Canadian oceans ! The other one
is just toooo cold !! :-) )
Think about 'airplane pooling', renting, or maybe block time .....
beg or borrow a 'plane, but come along !! You don't want to miss THIS ONE !!!
More details at the meeting ....

We'll also have some new guests & Rebel builders, and another draw
for Rebel T-Shirts, or Rebel Coffee Mugs, Rebel hats etc. ....
Should be an interesting meeting !

Phone us for updates or directions - (905) 457-5238.

Hope to see you all there ! (There will be some new Super Rebel/
Moose builders, too !!!) There is a lot of experience to share ...

Please put on your thinking caps & bring your 'subjects'...
It has been suggested that we pick one key topic for each meeting,
far enough ahead that builders can round up articles, photos, and
pieces to show - soooooo .... we need your suggestions for topics
for the next meeting.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Free coke, spring water, coffee & donuts, as usual - everyone welcome !
(Even if you don't have a Rebel <yet> !) ;-)

We'll try to have tea, bagels, cream cheese, & jam, too !!

.....bobp & Anna

---------------------------------------------------------------------

p.s. Please bring a folding lawn chair, as seating might be short.

p.p.s. We usually go out for pizza & beer after the meeting - all welcome !

THANKS !

PPPPS !!

No problem, Drew ! The Unicom freq. is 123.3, but we're <totally>
un-controlled ... so you can come NORDO ! ;-) :-)

Circuit height is 900 ASL - and standard left-hand, of course.
Watch out for spam-cans on LOOOONG (like 4 mile !) finals !!

Drive if the weather's bad, though. Glad to see you !!

Wayne G. O'Shea

Next Rebel Builders Meeting - Sun. Jan. 12th

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:42 pm

I think what Bob meant was the field is 900 ASL. Circuits are at 1700ASL (or
800 AGL).

The "PRO" section of the CFS does say as the last item NORDO/RONLY PPR!!! I
imagine that there are many aircraft on the field at Brampton that are
NORDO, so what's the difference if you know the field Drew. Just open your
eyes and do your base leg directly at the runway numbers and then crank a
final approach just before the pavement edge. This will guarantee that you
have at least 5 minutes before any of the spam can trainers, that are
already "established on final", will make it back to Brampton!!

Cheers,
Wayne

Post by Bob Patterson » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:42 pm

OOooooops ! You're right, Wayne - the 'send' finger was faster
than the eye !!! :-(

Circuit height IS 1,700 ft., field elev. is 900 ASL. The
only legal ways to join the circuit ('pattern') are: straight in
to the downwind, or cross over the middle of the runway at circuit
height, and join mid-left-downwind in a 90 degree left turn
(sometimes after crossing the field at 2,400 ft going the wrong
way, and turning and descending on the dead side to cross, something
the Brampton bunch call "The Turn-Around" - their very own procedure !)
:-) :-)

Hope to see you there !! Anna & I have to scurry home from
a 3 day Independent Business Owners Seminar in London to do the
meeting ! (We're ducking out early on the Sunday session there ...)

Post by Drew Dalgleish » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:42 pm

Thanks guys and sorry for the double posts I should have read the failed
mail message before I resent. The weather forcast doesn't look very
promising right now near the lakes but hopefully it'll improve. You're
right on about the huge circuits they fly there Wayne last time I cut off 2
spam cans that flew so far downwind I thought they'd left the zone. At
least this time if I make it I won't have to listen to their whining on the
radio. :)
