Anybody know anything about King's KX-155?

Post by Mike Kimball » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:37 pm

I'm interested in obtaining a KX-155 with glideslope for my SR, but I've
discovered that there are 6 models of 14V versions with glideslope. The
confusing things are that some are listed with 720 channels and some with
760 channels. Some have 25kHz selectivity and some have 50kHz selectivity.
All combinations are possible. I would have guessed that the kHz
selectivity would determine the number of channels but the model list I
found on the web implies something else. Another option is an "isolation
amplifier". Some models have this and some don't. What is it for? Can
anyone help me determine which model I should be looking for? Here's the
list I found.

069-1024-01 14 volt, with Glideslope Receiver, 720 COMM channels
069-1024-03 14 volt, with GS Receiver, 50kHz Selectivity, 720 COMM channels
069-1024-12 14 volt, with GS receiver, Isolation Amplifier, 720 COMM
channels
069-1024-31 14 volt, with Glideslope Receiver, 760 COMM channels
069-1024-33 14 volt, with GS Receiver, 50kHz Selectivity, 760 COMM channels
069-1024-42 14 volt, with GS receiver, Isolation Amplifier, 760 COMM
channels

Anybody know anything about King's KX-155?

I also just discovered that one of the differences between the KX-155 and
the KX-165 is that the 155 needs some kind of external VOR/LOC converter if
outputting to an HSI and the 165 has it built in. I have a Century HSI.
Anyone know what this "external converter" is, and if it's expensive. The
165 seems to be quite a bit more expensive than the 155. I'd go with the
155 plus external converter if it saves me money.
