Tank Cross vents

Awhile back we had the discussion on cross venting the tanks. I like the
idea of having the cross vent tube going all the way out to the tip of each
tank. I figured I can get a line in my fast build tanks by slipping it in
the end and going through the holes in the top of the ribs. Would just use
sealant to keep it in place at each rib.

Question: How best to make fittings in root rib? I am thinking two of the
flanges with pipe thread fittings riveted back to back, one inside and one
out with standard flared tube fittings inside and out.

Any better/easier ideas? I don't think the AN bulkhead fitting would give
enough area for a good seal??

Nice for me to be able to jump into a thread here once in a while.
Mostly I'm just a "lurker". But you asked about something that we
did. We have fuel tanks instead of wet wing tanks, so I had to make
up the end fittings. I just turned them up on the lathe. Sort of a
"top-hat" look.. I see no reason that you couldn't make them up a bit
longer, "a la Abe Lincoln" style, so that they are long enough that
you could tap a pipe thread into them from each end.

Scott,
I am also venting my tanks by going from the outboard forward top of the
left thank to the right wing tip and vise versa. I have already run the vent
lines as you did and secured them in the same way. I also made up some
fittings by welding standard AN aluminum fittings to a disc and riveting the
disk with proseal to the tank to get the pass through.

I've got 120 gal tanks, what I did was use 1/2" commercial alum tubing
which I butted to the inside of the top flange.
It just fit inside the hole in the .063 root rib and I gobbed proseal
around to secure in place.
I then extended out to mid way on last bay. I mounted nylon grommets in
each rib as guides.
I see no need to mount a flange on the inside of root rib to secure vent
tube as it's quite solid without.
Should it shift however unlikely it's no big deal as it's only to
prevent fuel sloshing from tank to tank.
