SR3500 Fus-409/Pulley BB-128
SR3500 Fus-409/Pulley BB-128
Hi guys and gals!
Now for something totally different! I have a question for you SR builders,
that I would like some replies to! Looks like it's time for me to get some
list usage the other way, with this new project underway!
I am sorting out all the stuff that is done and still needs to be done to
this SR2500/3500 I have come to own, so I can start "tearing" into it.
Before I go drilling those big 1/2" cable clearance holes through the fins
front attach bracket (scary looking stuff aye!) I have noticed that the two
BB-128 pulleys that are mounted to the Fus-409 brackets are so big in
diameter that the previous builder had to shim the brackets out from the
bulkhead for the pulleys to clear it enough to roll and that the predrilled
cotter pin (cable retainer) holes are not useable. There is not enough
material, out far enough, to drill new cotter holes. I think I remember
seeing a note from Elaine in shipping about a change in pulley diameters
from old stock to new stock that may have been addressing this, but I can't
find it. What have those of you that are beyond this point ran into here??
Change of pulleys, mfg new brackets, extend the top bracket tab with a
couple add ons to allow for a new cotter hole, or ??.
Thanks,
Wayne G. O'Shea

SR3500 Fus-409/Pulley BB-128
Hi Wayne,
Well as I best remember, the folks at MAM said they discontinued the smaller
pulley and I was short one. Then I received a larger FUS409 bracket and
larger pulleys, the larger bracket and pulleys did not align with the hole
in the fin. I used the original smaller 409 and ordered a smaller pulley
from Aircraft Spruce. All went together OK we will see how it works.

SR3500 Fus-409/Pulley BB-128
Al, thanks! That is what I figured and maybe I should dig a little harder
through all the boxes and see if there is another set of FUS-409's here. I
don't think there are though, so I will check through my pulley stock in my
NOS stuff and see if I have some with a smaller O.D. so I can use the cotter
hole and a similar 1.9" cable groove diameter so no extra stress on the
cables. I noticed that these BB-128 pulleys have a really deep side wall, so
there must be a pulley with a smaller O.D and the same cable groove
diameter. Just don't want to drill those 1/2" holes through the fin attach
at the current location and then change pulleys and have to make them into
slots!

SR3500 Fus-409/Pulley BB-128
This surprises me because I have serial number 44 which I bought almost 5
years ago from MAM which is a pretty early kit and I had no trouble at all.
The brackets, pulleys, hole alignment all worked fine.

Wayne,
According to our manual (circa 21/06/99) and shipping list,
we are to use the BB-128, which we have listed as MS24566-3B on shipping
list, with the FUS 409 brackets We put everything together without any
problems and our holes for the cotter pin (cable retainer) have enough
clearance.
And of course, if this has changed in latest manuals we have not heard about
it...

SR3500 Fus-409/Pulley BB-128
Thanks guys and Monica!
Making sense now by the serial number "range". The packing slip spells out
BB-128's which are 1.9" diameter at the cable and 2.5" overall, but
Peter/Monica's early kit #003 was shipped with MS24566-3B's that are only
1.5" at the cable and 2" overall. The kit I have (that was Dr. Rob Helt's)
is serial #17 and it was shipped with the BB-128's and the older smaller
Fus-409's. I guess somewhere in there people tipped off MAM and they started
making larger Fus-409's to go with the larger diameter BB-128's. I guess Rob
never asked for the new Fus-409's, as I don't see them here, so I will make
my own up and stay with the larger pulley for less cable stress.

SR3500 Fus-409/Pulley BB-128
I have SR 087. My pulleys are of the larger diameter and require either a
larger bracket or a shim. I haven't yet actually mounted my pulleys. So I may
look for smaller ones, to avoid extra holes in the fin mount.

look for smaller ones, to avoid extra holes in the fin mount.

Al, thanks! That is what I figured and maybe I should dig a little harder
through all the boxes and see if there is another set of FUS-409's here. I
don't think there are though, so I will check through my pulley stock in my
NOS stuff and see if I have some with a smaller O.D. so I can use the cotter
hole and a similar 1.9" cable groove diameter so no extra stress on the
cables. I noticed that these BB-128 pulleys have a really deep side wall, so
there must be a pulley with a smaller O.D and the same cable groove
diameter. Just don't want to drill those 1/2" holes through the fin attach
at the current location and then change pulleys and have to make them into
slots!

smallerHi Wayne,
Well as I best remember, the folks at MAM said they discontinued thesomepulley and I was short one. Then I received a larger FUS409 bracket and
larger pulleys, the larger bracket and pulleys did not align with the hole
in the fin. I used the original smaller 409 and ordered a smaller pulley
from Aircraft Spruce. All went together OK we will see how it works.

builders,Hi guys and gals!
Now for something totally different! I have a question for you SRthat I would like some replies to! Looks like it's time for me to gettolist usage the other way, with this new project underway!
I am sorting out all the stuff that is done and still needs to be donefinsthis SR2500/3500 I have come to own, so I can start "tearing" into it.
Before I go drilling those big 1/2" cable clearance holes through thehere??twofront attach bracket (scary looking stuff aye!) I have noticed that thepredrilledBB-128 pulleys that are mounted to the Fus-409 brackets are so big in
diameter that the previous builder had to shim the brackets out from the
bulkhead for the pulleys to clear it enough to roll and that thecan'tcotter pin (cable retainer) holes are not useable. There is not enough
material, out far enough, to drill new cotter holes. I think I remember
seeing a note from Elaine in shipping about a change in pulley diameters
from old stock to new stock that may have been addressing this, but Ifind it. What have those of you that are beyond this point ran into****Change of pulleys, mfg new brackets, extend the top bracket tab with a
couple add ons to allow for a new cotter hole, or ??.
Thanks,
Wayne G. O'Shea

SR3500 Fus-409/Pulley BB-128
Don, sounds like MAM has a larger set (of Fus-409's) for the asking, why not
check that out and go with the larger pulleys you have if you haven't
drilled the holes through the fin mount yet!? Probably what I should do also
(or make my own) as I haven't drilled the holes through the fin bracket, but
the Fus-409 pulley brackets are already drilled and cleco'd in place at
3/32".
Have you put a pulley, bolt and bracket pair together, to see if in fact you
don't already have the larger Fus-409's?
