How important is the seal between the cowl and air filter on the underside of
the lower cowl? I have a gap of about 3/4" and I'm not sure how to seal it,
or how well sealed it needs to be.

How about the front Baffles? Should I rivet the rubber seal to the front edge
of the front baffles that cover the lower half of the air intake and deflect
the air up?

One more question. How many of you guys painted (primed) your baffles? Is it
worth the extra effort?

Yes - extend the rubber seal forward from the front baffles,
until you get a good seal.

The seal between the cowl and the air filter is VERY important !!
Any air coming in there will pressurize the bottom section of the
cowl, reducing airflow through the cylinders, causing high CHT's .

You could try using aluminum frame guides and the rubber seal,
or a very large scat tube and gear clamps ... The big problem
is that the engine really hops around on Dynafocal mounts - an inch
or more of movement, so you need flexibility !!

This is a real challenge - if anybody has a good solution,
please let me know - I'd love to fill this area on mine !!

Hi Bob,
What I did on my cowl was to take baffle seal and rivet it to the air filter holder. The wrap and corner puckers were a pain, but worth it. When I now go to remove the lower cowl, I can remove all the screws and the cowl will hange on the seal. It also hel
ps when reinstalling the cowl as I reach through the air intake and align the baffle seal first to hold the cowl as I install the lower screws.
I'm not sure you'll have the same distance from carb to intake as I do though, as I'm running the conical style 0-320.
If the room is there for you, it is nice not to have to deal with clamps or any other type of attaching device while wrestling with the bottom cowl. IMHO Curt 97MR

How about using neoprene adhesive foam strips to seal the cowl and air filter
junction? Has anyone tried this?
