Stabilizer Mod (Moose) What About Elite?

Post by Dave Ricker » Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:01 pm

I've been watching this discussion and wondering what the implication is for
Elites which I believe are made the same way, anyone know anything/opinions
about this?? (knowing Wayne has seen both ;o)

Cheers,

Dave

I wonder if I need bother with this mod? Or maybe at most tie into the
stringers?

Wow, now I have to think! The mod currently installed looks pretty clean.
It picks up the rib over less area than the SS plate mod, but that is the
only advantage that I can see for the SS plate mod. It picks up the spar
over more area (all four bolts) than the SS plate mod. Where was the
cracking that led to the mods in the first place? I just ordered the
upgraded rib and the sea fins today so I have some time before I can do
anything.

Stabilizer Mod (Moose) What About Elite?

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:01 pm

Doubt it's an issue on the Elite Dave...unless you start running a radial
with a 10" paddle prop! No signs of Stab/Elevator problems on the one we
just put thru TC's inspection on Thursday am to move it from an N # to
C-FFIB (should have gotten C-CNIB considering how much of a joke the import
inspection was)! The machine needs the elevator horn SB performed...and I
tried to convince the owner to do both it and the spade "cut in half"
process at the same time while it's apart. He is going to fly it next season
instead and decide if it's really too twitchy, then I will pull the
stab/elevator for the horn mod and if wanting the spade mod. He seemed
happy with the way if flew during his 18+ hours of flight from California,
so is hesitant to cut the spades in half.

This is the airplane by the way!
