Trim Tab motor location

Post by Tim Hickey » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:07 pm

Hello, Group:

Quick question: I am at the point where it is time for me to cut out the
left elevator skin and make the trim tab.
As I look at the manual, it makes me wonder why the trim motor and the arm
are located so far off center, left to right.

I understand that one side of the support structure for the tab motor is a
standard elevator rib, and the other side is an auxiliary rib installed to
complete the support. But why is the aux rib offset towards the root end of
the elevator?

If it were set to the outside of the standard rib, the trim tab attachment
horn would be more in the center of the tab.

I am thinking that I will "free lance" and put the aux rib outboard of the
standard rib, and this will put the mechanism more in the center of the
tab.

Am I missing something important?

Thanks

Tim Hickey
