912s engine weights

Bruce,
I suspect you would get VERY similar performance with a Rebel !
With our 80 hp. 912 Rebel, I can match your take-off & climb numbers at
about 1,000 lb. take-off weight .... Cruise is only 97 mph., though,
at 3 gallons/hr. :-)

I'm flying a 912uls in a Kitfox and the numbers are impressive, however it
would not likely be the same for the Rebel. Kitfox empty weight is 675 lb.
and gross at 1200 lb. At gross weight and 2500 ft. altitude with a warp drive
prop set at 17 dec. I get 1100 ft./min. climb, a top speed of 118 mph, 105
mph at 75% with a 5 gal./hour fuel burn and it leaps off the ground in 150
ft..

912s engine weights

Bob, Bruce,

Interesting numbers from that Kitfox. I have a friend here with a Kitfox 1V
with the 912 and have been out with him often, on wheels, skis and floats
and he's never pulled away from me and while we did not do precise
measurements on take-off and climb, they do seem to compare very favourably.
The only difference I can make was he's running a 3-blade GSC and was using
a 3-blade WD, then on floats I'm on straight aluminum and he's on Lotus. By
the way, we were both using the same protractor for our props, the one
supplied by GSC and we were pitched at 15 degrees. I 'll definetly have to
try it at 17 as you did.

By the way, he's got much less room in the cockpit and cargo room. I always
get attention on the ice when I pull out my gear, such as gas auger, chairs,
etc., etc., etc. You know the feeling Bob.

912s engine weights

Bob,
I would be very happy with those numbers in a Rebel 912, especially since it
will perform even better with the 320 I intend to install. I will be picking
up my partially finished Rebel Tuesday, in Oregon, and am really looking
forward to finishing (and flying) this orphan. I'm looking forward to meeting
some of you Rebel guys in person, someday.

912s engine weights

Aurele,

Your are right on with the extra cargo! That and the roomy cockpit caught my
attention. The fox gets no increase in gross weight with the addition of
floats, as does the Rebel (another advantage).

The Warp Drive I use is the taper tip. Warp Drive claim it is self pitching
with a flex in flight. A test was done by Rans Corp. on a 7 Courier with same
engine swapping a taper tip and straight tip Warp Drive prop. The test
according to Rans showed an increase in performance with the taper.

The numbers I quoted are for my Kitfox are for a 100 HP 912uls not the 80 HP.
Does your friend fly the 100 HP 912uls?

Bruce, I believe I have the tappered tip also. My friend's Kitfox is only
the 80 h.p., I must have mist the fact you have the 100 h.p., sure sounds
like it provides some nice performance numbers. Oh well ! maybe some day !
