[rebel-builders] hearing loss & head sets

Post by Angus McKenzie » Sun Feb 19, 2012 3:56 pm

Me too! Years spent behind round engines in ag-planes with a base-ball cap
and Ray Bans, custom made Kevlar helmet with David Clarke electrics on the
floor in my pick-up truck. Helmet made my neck stiff from looking backwards
for where to go. Now I can't hear, at least thats what my wife thinks. Got
Lightspeed XL20 in 99 at SnF and it needs a refurb now and I'm looking for a
pair this time. Had the LS for me with Soft-com for passenger and believe
there may be an impedance problem but need to take Ken for a ride to
verify........

Just packing my bow-hunting/camping gear tonight, leave with the Rebel in
the morning to find a quiet remote lake, set up camp and look for a little
moose....Angus

Having spent a number of years in a Convair 600 (that's a CV-240 with
Rolls Royce Dart engines), and having the company remove most of the
soundproofing from the cockpit - I'll be one of the first to recommend
anything that will reduce noise. I'm paying a price now - with very
noticeable hearing loss. It's amazing how we think we're bullet proof
when we are young! We used to fly DC-3 with the windows open and used
speakers - no headsets (except when shooting 4 course range approaches -
who's old enough to remember these?).

My recommendation is to get the best headset you can and wear plugs when
on the ramp. And don't listen to the BOOM BOXES that kids have in their
cars now.

[rebel-builders] hearing loss & head sets

Post by angus » Sun Feb 19, 2012 3:56 pm

Hi Del,
Headed to a spot about 10miles on 030 from Kilarney or 25 miles on 235
degrees from Sudbury. Bassoon Lk. NE of Bear Lk. Land locked , not too far
from home and no road access, all the right perks for a calf hunt. I did
not get a tag this year and am only going to spend a few days looking for
baby moose then must get back to hunt in serious fashion for a big bruiser
buck in SW ON.
Usually we bow hunt the big moose in WMU13-Dorion area near Thunder Bay
when we get tags.
......Cheers, Angus
