[rebel-builders] 50 more tailcone rivets

Post by andrew dalgleish » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:15 pm

Thanks Ken I guess I'll have to add them as well.
I just installed about 50 more rivets on the inside of my tailcone
bulkheads which I missed during construction. Daryl pointed these out to me
and mentioned that many builders miss these and have tail cones that are
not as torsionally strong as they should be. Every bulkhead is made up
from 4 stamped pieces riveted together with 9 rivets on the 2" wide shear
flange. Then the fuselage skin also rivets the outer flanges together with
about 4 rivets through each flange joint. Apparently the inner flange is
also supposed to have 4 rivets joining each section of bulkhead. Sure
enough I have also seen other Rebels that don't have those rivets so I
thought I'd mention it. It is quite easy to add these and it doesn't
interfere with any exterior paint.

Ken

[rebel-builders] 50 more tailcone rivets

Post by Jim Cole » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:15 pm

Hi Ken, I actually took a picture in Arlington so that everyone could see
what Daryl was talking about (if anyone is interested) and to remind me to
do this when I got home. Maybe on the list of things to do tomorrow.

I went to Edenvale today to the "Gathering of the Classics" and had a great
time swapping stories with Bob Fisher who flew down from Parry Sound.
Hamburgers were $6 and there wasn't any breakfast - but a nice collection of
aircraft arrived.

Cheers

[rebel-builders] 50 more tailcone rivets

Post by Ken » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:15 pm

Hi Jim

We are at least in good company. Those rivets are probably more
important on the high powered Rebels but good to have them in.

I remembered Edenvale after I had the ramble bugs cleaned off one wing
this morning and I wasn't brave enough to fly with one clean wing and
one heavy wing ;)
Good thing I had wax on the leading edge or it would never have come
clean. Fortunately there were only a few bugs on the trailing edges...

[rebel-builders] 50 more tailcone rivets

Post by Jim Cole » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:15 pm

Hi Joe, I uploaded the pix under Rebel - 206 Fuselage - "Needed Rivets"
There's 51 pictures in this section so you need to click on the "N" to get
to it directly. You can see the rivets on the bottom of the flange on the
channel.

[rebel-builders] 50 more tailcone rivets

Post by Joe Ronco » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:15 pm

Thanks Jim. I hope to be the owner of a partially built Rebel by the end
of this
month so I will have to check to see if these rivets were installed.
