[rebel-builders] ELT & Starter

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:00 pm

The actual 122-12PM uses what is identical to a ford mini van starter and
solenoid. I had my skytec solenoid replaced by my local alternator/starter
rebuilder for $30 !

Bolt on? doesn't sound like a skytec...

Hi gang,

1. Any recommendation for an ELT? It seems to me that with the change to
243 MHz, it would make sense to buy an inexpensive 121.5 MHz unit now, in
the hope that the new 243 units will come down in price. What is the
input from the Canadian group?

2. Head up. I just gave my starter the smoke test, and it failed. The
solenoid produced a pretty white smoke and heated up very quickly. The
overhaul documentation indicates that it is a Sky-tec 122-12PM. Having
contacted Sky-tec we have managed to verify that it is not one of theirs.
Lovely. According to Sky-tec, "There are a number of "creative types" in
this small industry who have attempted to make a small cottage industry
copying our starter designs." Any similar experiences out there?
Apparently I can buy a automotive solenoid that will bolt on just fine.
