[rebel-builders] baggage area

Post by Jesse Jenks » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:26 am

Ditto Ralph,
I urge everyone to think of what would happen to improperly secured cargo in
a crash or nose over. You better plan on getting your head down. Only
problem is if there's someone in the other seat and he gets the same idea.
It'l be a race to see who can get their head in the other's lap first.
I am in the process of installing the same domed plates with removable
rings, using 1/4 nutplates. I'm using .032 doublers over the channels and on
top of the floor and on the bottom skin as well. On the right side I'm
beefing up the floor even more and planning to use the tiedowns as seatbelt
attachments as well, for a sideways jumpseat. I also plan to have a
net/curtain to seperate the aft baggage area, and back there I have
provisions for lighter duty tiedowns at each bulkhead at the top of the
corner wraps.
I got my tiedowns at http://www.pitposse.com/tiedohoandtr.html

I don't have Waynes silky handed piloting skills so wanted a rugged tie
down arrangement to prevent cargo from causing injury in a crash. We used
the domed aluminum plates which have a 1" removable ring to accept tie
downs. Probably will make a cargo net with nylon straps to suit after
airplane completion. The domed plate use 2 - #10 screws to fasten them
down. If several are installed the ring inserts (which can be changed in
seconds) can be installed to suit or left home. Be sure they are suitably
reinforced to prevent tear out.

See www.fiberlinkweb.com/slings-anchor-points.html for images. These
anchors are available from a number of sources, this was just the first I
found.
