Why not use an anchor nut (e.g. A6195-6Z-1D)?

I just uploaded two pictures of access covers that I have where they
have been dimpled for rivnuts. I've looked all over the web and can't
find any tool that creates these large dimples for rivnuts. Has anyone
on the list seen such a tool to create these rivnut dimples or is this
some totally custom deal that someone made?

The pics are in area 123 S/M Miscellaneous.

Thanks in advance...

Ted

[rebel-builders] Rivnut dimple for access covers

Post by Don Boardman » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:13 am

Hi Ted,

We used flush, keyed rivnuts on the bottom skin of our wing. We had to
dimple the wing skin. This allowed the access covers to fit flush on the
skin. We used round headed screws and the covers were not dimpled. Our goal
was not flush fasteners just covers that laid flat to the skin. We used a
hand squeezer and I know we had to find larger dies that would work.

Now, the bad news. I can't remember if we purchased them or we made them.
It's been a while and that part of the hard drive has been written over. The
next time I am out to the hanger (it may be a week or so) I will try and
locate the dies and get back to you. I will also email my partner and ask
him if he remembers.

Regards,
Don Boardman
