Rivet strength

I recently had a short discussion with Darryl Murphy regarding the use of
Avex pull rivets vs solid rivets. In summary, Darryl pointed out that the
shear strength of the skin in most places (e.g. 0.025 thickness I believe he
was using as an example) is only about 165lbs. Hence, his contention is
that the Avex is plenty strong enough--to go stronger (his point) means that
the skin fails versus the rivet failing.

Also, there doesn't seem to be any instance (that I'm aware of) where an
Avex rivet installation failed on a Rebel, SR or Moose that caused any
problem (that would otherwise have been prevented thru the use of a solid
rivet).

O.K., I have a question on the rivet substitution chart. Am I reading
correctly that a dash-3 solid aluminum rivet is far superior in bearing and
shear to any avex 1/8 installation?
