Hi all,
I finally remembered to look up the numbers on the air and oil filter.
I have the speed cowl and the MAM air box. It is a Brackett BA 4108. The
K+ N ( Challenger ) is a CP1150
I Use a WIX # 51348 oil filter.
As for the internal check ball thing, I'm still looking for the material
to back up what I said. I know it's true, but I don't have the resource to
prove it yet.
That reminds me of that great Ben Franklin saying
" It is better to keep quiet and thought a fool, than to open your mouth
and remove all doubt" Curt N97MR

[rebel-builders] air filters and oil filters
Thanks Curt. I have been in touch with Ken at Long-EZ.com and he says
his manufacturer has shorted him on the unit. He won't have any until
some time in August. I'm in no great hurry so will wait for that.

[rebel-builders] air filters and oil filters
In looking the Wix details up I discovered that it operates with an 8-11
psi bypass valve setting. I was able to confirm the check ball thing and
everything else you observed. Aviation filters require a setting of
12-14 psi according to Tempest. Champion Aerospace seems to be difficult
to get technical data from, other than their catalog, which only gives
diameters etc. My engine oil pressure seems to be regulated to 80 psi so
it wouldn't be hard for the filter to generate a backpressure sufficient
to operate its own bypass valve if the valve is set too low. I think I
will go with the Champion and follow up on the Tempest for type
eventually. Thanks for all the guidance.
