Hi Ron: I have been reviewing your great website and
pictures.(http://n254mr.com,) You are doing a beautiful job on the
construction. I figure you must be following this builder's site or it
wouldn't here for us to see. I would like to mention that I do not see all
of the "Ontario" mods. That would be the re-inforcment plates for the
firewall and the skin doubler around the tail cone rudder post area (Wayne
O's great contributions). These have been discussed at length on this site
and are very important additions to the longevity of the Rebel. I also see
you have the club of a tail spring that Murphy supplies and like Bob P
points out it should be machined down to allow some flex as it is much to
rigid the way it is. I have built two Rebels and working on a third and did
not use these but replaced them with two leaf trailer springs. The real
preference here is a fibreglass spring. I plan to make one for my current
Rebel 192. Just my 2c Canadian worth. Again, great looking aircraft. Bob J.

Bob,

Thanks for your kind comments. Most of the construction you see in the
pictures was done by Jim LePard, and credit for the good workmanship
belongs to him. Of course, I concur that the discussion on this list and
the archives are invaluable, particularly the broad spectrum of
different experiences and opinions.

I decided not to add the firewall plates because the chosen engine is
relatively light, I'm trying to keep the airframe light, I don't
anticipate heavy float operations, etc.

I do have an an extra FUS-30 tail cone skin, and may add it, but I'm
also considering other ways to strengthen this area.

I do plan to do something about the tailspring, no doubt one of the
three options you mention. If anybody spies suitable fiberglass
tailsprings at Oshkosh (or elsewhere) before I do, please let me know.
If you're going to make one and find it feasible to increase your
production, I might be one of several potential customers on this list.
