Thank you for your kind words Jesse. I appreciate everyone's helpful,
heartfelt and kind words. I'm having a hard time--very hard time--getting
out of the "dumps" and stopping the "what if" scenarios.

Yes, the Moose fuel valves are overhead and slightly behind the pilot on
each side. No time to have look up there and then switched them at a very
slow airspeed 10' over the ground. I'm thinking of a warning light on the
panel if one or both valves are off right next to the airspeed indicator. I
have to figure out how to do that from the valve to a switch context, but
that question is a bit down the road.

I'm firmly committed to rebuilding for a lot of reasons. Hard part will be
picking up the plane on a trailer later this week after the FAA releases it
to me. Seeing the plane again will start the "what if's" all over again.

I'll join in too. It made my heart sink to see the photos of your Moose Ted.

So sorry. Glad you plan to rebuild.

Does the Moose use 2 seperate shutoff valves in the wing roots like the
Rebel? If so, this incident might be a good argument for a single selector
valve in front of the pilot. I know some have already done this. I plan to
use the Andair. You could still forget to select BOTH before takeoff, but at
least it would be more in your scan.

Yup Ted you did good on the decision that really really mattered.

Interesting that everyone seems to accept the necessity of taking off
with both main tank fuel valves on even if one tank is empty. We had
another discussion on that a few weeks ago at the last Brampton meeting
but the Rebel only uses -6 plumbing. I had thought that the big machine
used -8 plumbing and that might make it more forgiving about this but I
guess not ? On automobiles these type of fuel issues pretty much went
away when they started bleeding vapour (and some fuel) from the carb
back to the tank. My 82 K car did that with a bleed off the filter next
to the carb. A well located vented header tank or a vented fuel
strainer would also be effective I think. I was surprised that
returnless EFI works so well but the high pressure seems to keep the vapour
suppressed.
One probably doesn't want a situation where a header has enough fuel to
warm up and get airborne while the main fuel is off. My only
outstanding fuel issue is that my red and green flashing header low
fuel light is not very attention getting in sunlight so I should wire
in an audio alert or move it to the main instrument cluster.
