As far as I'm concerned they all serve no purpose if you use one lug anchor
nuts for the back side!

On planes you've seen with the holes, where did they put the one by the slot
for the control horn?

All I've found for nutplates have two lugs. Is there any problem grinding
one side off to fit?

I have not seen a Rebel with trailing edge holes in the bottom skin!

On the one lugs I only use a single rivet anyhow...BUT it has to go in the
outer hole of the horn so that the rivet clears the aileron bracket and it's
shim if needed. Guess you could use a solid C/Sunk rivet to attach if using
a shorter lug on a normal anchor nut. Just be sure you are not using one of
those cheap formed anchors...like the floating F5000-3's. The ones I was
distributing had a GENEROUS thread depth and where made from solid stainless
so they had better threads than an standard AN nut. Don't leave yourself
short and at least use a high quality FIXED anchor nut.

Haven't looked anywhere....what I had available were NOS stock.... circa
Norseman factory or when Canadair was turning C47's into DC-3's!

I have 90 some thousand anchor nuts on my shelves...but none I am willing to
state my reputation and your safety on... to use to mount
flaperons/ailerons. The one box I had was the only ones I felt VERY
comfortable with...unfortunately the lads before you have cleaned me out.

I got mine from Wayne (thanks Wayne), but ACS has some that look similar but
with nylon insert like regular nuts. part ms21080.
BTW I used two CS avex rivets in each. Seems to work well.

You can get these at vansaircraft.com or ACS. Search either place
for "anchor" or "anchor nut" (no quotes).

Note, altho these are not nylock, the AN3 threaded hole is a bit pinched such
that they are locking. Perhaps after several uses some locktite will be
needed. dunno.

I've also got some pictures on my home comptuer how I did my inspection
hole/cover plate on rib #7 -- happy to post if you'd like. Basically the doubler
picks up the flaperon horn slot as well as the cover plate hole. I put the
inspection holes in partly because I hadn't known of Wayne's recommendation
at first, but then too, IMO it ain't bad to be able to peek inside at annual.

Ben,

I'd love to see the pictures. They always help. You mention doublers. I've
seen one Rebel with a doubler in this area but I thought it was a repair.
Can't remember seeing anything in the manual. Unfortunately don't remember
how they did the inspection holes.
