[rebel-builders] Fuselage Frame Construction

Post by Mike Kimball » Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:22 am

There is very little steel in the SR structure although a few attachment
points here and there have been changed to steel with the Moose upgrade.
I'm not sure because I'm not in the shop but I think the bulkhead channels
are .032 and are simply channels in most places and a box structure is made
by capping two channels at the front and rear door posts. Lengthwise
strengthening is accomplished with aluminum channels in the floor and by
simply putting a sort of double bend in the skins that acts like a stringer.
Don't worry, the skins come with the bend already in place. Let me just say
that I have placed a 172 into the back of a low-boy truck trailer piece by
piece and the Super Rebel/Moose makes the 172 seem like it's made of paper.
The Murphy airplanes are built hell for stout.

Builders,

The frame is riveted fastened sheet aluminium.

what i'm wondering is:

1. What thickness is the sheet alum inside the fuselage that makes up the
circular/rectangular larger sections. The pieces that seperate the bays..

2. Are the solid pieces that run length-wise from each section piece
welded? If so,
by the factory?

Thanks
