WRH,

I've been following your thread and think you may be
getting a few things screwed up. The REBEL will not
take the 540 engine. That was the Super Rebel. The
Moose replaced the Super Rebel and is the ultimate
kitplane for heavy hauling. Like a Small DH Beaver.
And is a much bigger plane than the BearHawk.

Yes the REBEL is about the size of a 170/Tripacer/etc.
But this plane normally uses the 0-320.

I also looked at the Bearhawk before I purchased my
Rebel. But you need to make a list of what you REALLY
need as far as your flying uses goes. This is what I
did and I found I wouldn't need the extra HP and
carrying capacities of the Bear Hawk or the Moose to
warrant the added expense of these two planes. You can
figure about double the operating expense for the
BearHawk and mor than that for the Moose. If you are
usually by yourself with gear, the Rebel should fit
the bill. If you need to haul a HUGE load then the
Moose is it.

By the way I poured over specs of several planes for a
few years before I made the decision. For some reason
I just kept ending up with the Rebel at the top of my
list. I feel it is one of the best, most versitile
planes out there for the money. A big plus for me is
also the fact that the Rebel is ALL metal with the
exception of the flapperons. I should have around
$40,000-$45,000 in mine when finished and that is
including the 1800 amphibs. But I bought mine a few
years ago. So you can probably add about $5,000 to
that with todays prices.

that is just where im at.

Wld the rebel haul 2 people with survival gear & abt 200 lbs of fish on
floats..Looks like it wld.

So your saying the BH is built for larger capacities. I need to look at
those tables again.

One prob i see is I cant predict how much id be flying in
the future. Id like to think all fishing season and then there's
thousands of lakes here with monster trout & salmon etc..but the winters
are cold prob wldnt fly much then.

The list is a good idea. Ill file your comments and use them to help
select. Wld be nice to be able to rent a plane like that for a season
but i imagine thats too expensive.

Ill be busy building for a yr but ill be back in touch on and off to see
what the word is.

200 pounds of fish at fly-in locations! Really? I've got to do more
fishing down south. It would take a lot of fishing up here (Fairbanks) to
collect that much fish. Must be dip netting huh? Know of any fly-in only
dip netting sites?

Yeah but like Mike said, it wouldn't be to hard for a couple of guys to get
200 lbs in an afternoon dip netting. Last time I went 4 of us got 74 reds
and 4 kings in about 5 hours. That figured to about 130 lbs of fillets!

Flyn in catcha king or 4 depending on limits(2 perople). Catch a few
reds or silvers. Maybe hit seward or Homer or whittier for some Halibut.
I mean a mans gotta be prepared right?

I know some lakes where there are landlocked trout(fnd them in the early
80's) longer than your arm. I know a lake where there are literlly
thousands of fish coming up to it. Depending on the time its reds or
silvers or pinks.

You need to get out more..thats all <G>

Yeah w've all run the copper dipnetting for reds, chitna, and the Kenai
for dip netting so it can be done. I stopped cause i cldnt stand that 5
hr+ drive to chitna..but with a float plane i can and i can haul my
Achilles to. <G>

200 pounds of fish at fly-in locations! Really? I've got to do more
fishing down south. It would take a lot of fishing up here (Fairbanks)
