Rebel: Tail Wrap Modification

Post by pequeajim » Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:22 am

Hey guys...

Is there a definitive set of instructions for the tail wrap, (FUS 30?) mod for
the Rebel? I was looking at some of the pictures of this mod, and it looks like
the wrap is riveted to a diagonal piece under the skin that I do not see in my
Rebel?

There must have been a piece that was added behind the skin for support?

Rebel: Tail Wrap Modification

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:22 am

Hi Jim !

The easiest way is just to cut down a second FUS-30 at the front
a bit. The idea is to pick up all of the rudder post rivets, most of
the rivets along the top horizontal bulkhead, and tie into at least
a few rivets on the FUS-89 at the front. This will mean drilling out all
of your existing rivets - you could use Mylar sheet to copy the holes
& pre-drill into the overlay... Slather lots of PolyFiber Epoxy
Primer inbetween the 2 layers, and rivet together. A few extra
rivets in the sides will help keep it tight.

The "diagonal piece" you see might be the triangular FUS-89 that
inserts into the FUS-22-1 side support - this was added on later Rebels.
Just checked your pics - your Rebel has the FUS-89 installed already.

Thanks for the input Bob; clear enough. I didn't think about the PolyFiber
Epoxy, sounds like a great idea.

(that's why we ask...)
