What has the majority of builders been using to seal the corners of the
firewall with? Does anyone know of a supplier of this 3M Fire Barrier 2000
caulking in Canada?

Rebel Firewall Sealant
Rebel Firewall Sealant
Hi Steve
We discussed this a year or so ago. I used 3M Fire Barrier Sealant
CP25WB+ from an industrial supplier who handles 3M products. Think it
was around cdn$25. This is an intumescent product that will swell up and
insulate against heat and is much better than the silicone products that
are only good for 500 degrees or so. I have been told that inspectors
will accept silicone but that seems silly to me since it is less heat
resistant than aluminum. The fire caulk that Home Depot sells around
here is just a fire rated silicone and I wouldn't recommend it as it
behaved just like silicone sealant when I heated it up. I'm told that
the 3M product mentioned above is available in the USA Home Depots but
it is not in the stores that I searched in Ontario.
