2500 windshield

Post by Jason Beall » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:28 am

Greetings all,

When my fast build arrived last week, I set the
windshield up on the fuselage temporarily in place to
see how it fit. I was amazed as it appears the lower
lip protrudes out over the firewall (albeit it

Good Morning Guys,

Don and I have just completed the windshield installation. I can shed some
lite. The mold for the windshield that LP Aero forms for us is not exactly a
perfect fit. After extensive discussions with LP we decided to put heat to the
sides and try to form to the fuselage better. As it was the sides that lap
the fuselage stuck out 1/2 to 3/4". We were fairly successful at doing this.
The windshield does need to be trimmed to fit. We also heated the top where it
meets the roof to let it lay down better with no force. We then layed up a
fiberglass retainer. Came out nice. We can put some pics on the list if anyone
would like.

2500 windshield

I think my first reply got bounced from the server.

I assume the windshields are the same on the 2500 and 3500 now. The
window does stick out past the firewall. The fast builds come with an
aluminum lip all ready in place that extends out over the firewall about
3
inches or so. I am not sure if there is a bulliten or update showing tha
t
online.

There was talk awhile back about adding a piece of stainless under the
part of the windshield that sticks out over the firewall, a picky
inspector may require it (but a typical US inspector will have no clue, a
t
least in our area..)

My sides fit perfect but the top had a very slight wow in it. It pulled
down with the top retainer so didn't do any heating.
