I have just completed hooking up the rudder cables on my Elite, and I am
rather dismayed at the friction in the system. I have a total of 7
fairleads on each side of the fuselage, and of course the return springs
at the pedals, and it must take 10 or 15 lbs to move the rudder.

On top of this, after I hooked up the water rudders (Montana 2200
floats), things got stiffer yet, as expected. When the water rudders
are retracted, they contribute a certain amount of over centre force,
due to the position of the water rudder retarct fairlead aft of the
water rudder hinge line. This tends to make the air rudder want to stop
off centre.

I'd be interested in comments from pilots. Does lubricating the
fairleads help?

I put a pulley at Station A, which helped considerably. I haven't measured
the force required, but it doesn't seem considerable. Am very interested in
your experiences rigging the floats.
