SR/Moose gas fillers

Post by Roger M Jewell » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:31 am

I've been looking in catalogs for additional gas fillers with necks for
the first bay on my S/M and can't seem to find any. Which ones are you
going to use Al or others. Would it be too bad to put a grab handle up
on the wing? It isn't exactly a sleek speed machine!

SR/Moose gas fillers

Roger,
I used bayonet style caps and filler necks from Aircraft Spruce, PN
05-17800 about $30 each. You can get vented or unvented. I welded an
aluminum flange around the filler neck and then cut a hole in the top of the
bay (third one out) and riveted it on.

I know some that have installed the Monarch caps that were used to replace
what they called the Cessna "killer caps". Monarch went out of business but
the cap and STC was purchased by Hartwig out in Minnesota. They don't
mention the caps on their site yet but I heard they have some left over from
Monarch and will be making new ones soon. They are pricey, $300 each I
believe when Monarch was selling them. There phone number is on the site
here:

I have seen grab handles on the wing and on the upper side fuselage just
below the window. A couple of us have made and installed float lifting
straps that are attached to the fuselage and the forward wing attach drag
brace. They stick up enough above the wing to work as handles.

FWIW
