Does anyone know if one parks in the homebuilt area (and/or in the
planned Murphy "line" this year) what that involves for those of us tent
camping? My question is specifically how such tent camping in the
homebuilt area leaves one close to showers and restroom facilities. Are
showers conveniently close, or is a long walk or shuttle involved?
I've camped in the General Aviation area several times and know that
ones proximity to showers is up to the luck of the arrival time, meaning
if you happen to arrive at the "right" time you end up parking near
showers; the "wrong" arrival time could mean a long walk or even a bus
ride to get to showers or the restroom.
Looking forward to meeting other "Murphy" folks,
Ted Waltman

Oshkosh question
Hi Ted !
The situation in Homebuilt Camping has been the same as
you describe for General Aviation area - only worse !! We have
been parked 'WAY DOWN at the south end, well beyond the end of
the runway, with a long walk to the 'temporary' shower facility
(3 showers for ~1,200 people !), and, often, NO buses, never mind
trams !! :-( That is a major reason why we prefer to drive in-
the facilities in the drive-in campground are MUCH better !!!
I've grumbled about this for years, and it seems like
enough of us have, that somebody is listening !! Apparently,
this year, Oshkosh will have a NEW, "FLY-IN & CAMP WITH YOUR
HOMEBUILT" area - right in the middle of the grounds, with
a NEW Shower Building and camp store, just for us !!!!!!!!
We'll see ......
Silly me - all these years, I thought that flying in
and camping with your homebuilt was what Oshkosh was supposed
to be about !! Somewhere along the line, it turned into a
< "Disneyland North", with a big warbird airshow to fleece the
public > kind of thing ... Maybe this year things will
start returning to the original idea - we sure hope so !!
At least, if we all fly in together, we should end up
together ! We hope to have our Rebel flying again in time
to fly in & camp with the rest of the Murphy guys & gals.
We usually stop at Clintonville, about 1 hour north of OSH,
to rest & refuel before going in - you <could> face as long as
2 hours of 'holding' before landing at OSH (we have !), so
be sure to have full tanks.
We look forward to seeing everybody at the Murphy Builder
Get-Together on Friday night, at the Seaplane Base Fish Fry -
tickets are $10 at the Murphy booth....

Oshkosh question
Hi Bob Anna and all, Between computer problems and hand problems (make that
fingers) i have not been on the list much. I also talked to Colleen about
this years OSH, and it's nice to see MAM working on getting the builders back
together. I will be camping at the seaplane base again this year with 97MR, so I
hope to see all at the fish fry. If someone really needs a floatplane ride, I
will be glad to do that too! Maybe Don can help me get near the dock for the
evening so we all have a rebel to look at during dinner! :). Just a side note,
if you are on amphibs and want to go to Whittman field without being parked in
a hold, slide into the seaplane base 1st and go inbound from there. The
procedures are written in the seaplane base notams to bypass the ripon hold. It's
still better at the seaplane base though.
Hoping to see you all there, Curt N97MR
