Moose Prop Length

Post by Don Boardman » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:16 am

Hi Bob,

Just for the record. The 3 blade MT props for the M-14 come in three
recommended lengths 96", 102" and 108". The aerobatics guys tend to use the
108". The basic recommendation for floats was 102"

Regards,
Don B.

Hi Ted !

92 " sounds like a lot for a 3 blade on the Moose -
is that the diameter that Hartzell recommends ?? I seem to recall
that the 2 blade paddle was 9 feet - 108". Would have thought that
a 3 blade would be a lot shorter ...

In any case, there wasn't a big problem with clearance with
the 9 ft. paddle - although I was a bit nervous about raising the tail
too far the first few times ! ;-) So you should be fine with a
larger tailwheel.

Moose Prop Length

Actually, 98 and 102 are the lengths on Sukhois. Typically, Yaks and model
12s use 98. 98 is faster but 102 has slightly greater static thrust. For this
reason, we use the 98 on the model 12. 108 is rare and I know of only 1
flying in Europe. There may be a few more but I have not heard of one in the
states. The 2 blade V-530 prop is 94

Moose Prop Length

That's what I thought! ...that the 2 blade V-530 that MAM had on the
prototype was only 94" long.

I have the 2 blade metal for the M462RF and it's 106 and 1/4" long and knew
I was looking for an extra 6 inches of prop clearance a couple years back
compared to the M14 set up.

Cheers,
Wayne

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the clarification.
My info was from memory at the time we made our purchase.
