I have the bungee and they work fine. Look at Ron Barbers bungie making jig
in misc. This is a good thing however I made them according to Ronm's plans
and installed 4 bungies per side (16 altogether). This allowed the gear to
spread about 1".I made new bungies leaving the bolts as shown but measured
10 3/4" on the bungie instead of 11 1/2". Put three on each side to start
but had to put a fourth on to keep the gear tight. My firewall is cut back
3". Hung an 0-320 on it.
Your engine weight will have an impact on your bungies. This is a really
tough set of legs.
Good Luck

Hi Greg !
Welcome to the list !
You know that <I'd> go with the bungee gear, possibly with Wayne's
die spring inserts and Gord Mohr's leg-top fittings, if you want a really
good ride. If it's only temporary until you go to amphibs, then the
bungee gear, using # 9044 pre-made rings is the fastest, easiest, lightest
way to go ! :-)
Hope we can get some of the other builders down there, from Rochester
to Buffalo, to join you in a car-pool & come on up for the next Builders
meeting, on Sunday March 14th, 1pm, at Brampton Airport (CNC3), at
the RAA-Toronto Region clubhouse !!! Anybody else out there want to
come along ??? :-) :-) Contact Greg if you do ! :-)
See you next Sunday ! :-)
......bobp
PS
Please check out the email archives, if you haven't already, and
search for the "Ontario Mods" for the fuselage - main parts are FUS-30,
FUS-26, the door frames, and the floor - and the rudder pedals ...
And the factory web site, for the "Float Fix" mods, and the
elevator horn mod., etc. .....

Unfortunately the #9044's are the expensive way to do things though......
now that bungee rings are fetching $100cdn per PAIR and you need 6 pairs to
do it this way properly.
My die spring struts are only $525cdn/pair and a one time LIFETIME
purchase!! (unlike bungees that are an every two or three year affair... or
you are asking for trouble!)
)

I have the spring gear with the factory 2"x2" reinforcing angles and haven't
had any problems with it and I fly off and into all unimproved strips. It adds
weight, however... Twenty or twenty-five lb. I'm told. There is no real
advantage to the spring gear (a disadvantage really) and if you don't have gear yet
and want to save the weight I think you should go with Wayne's die spring
struts. I think you will find that to be the consensus of the majority of the
list anyway.
