Midland/Penetang Ski Flyin **POSTPONED** until at least next

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sat Feb 18, 2012 8:56 am

We have checked out the ice condition of Midland Harbour, as well as our old
location on St. Andrews (Mud) Lake, Penetang.

Both locations are >NOT< conducive to ski operations... with anywhere from
3" to 9" of slush/water between the ice surface and a 4" snow cover. This
isn't going to freeze anytime soon. The only real hope for Midland Harbour
is a severe melt knocking down the snow and then a good freeze up.

Midland Harbour is very rough, thanks to snowmobiles sinking in the slush
and throwing up the mess to each side. If there isn't a melt before this all
freezes up it would most likely result in disaster with someone losing their
landing gear (and the other related expensive items that always go right
after the gear!!).

If we don't get the miracle melt and freeze, we will watch the weather and
if it seems appropriate Bruce Tinney and myself (and anyone else with a
sled) will do as we have done for a few of the years in the past and pack
out a runway on Mud Lake (if a good cold snap is predicted to freeze up our
work). It's currently nice and "flat" and not destroyed with snowmobile
tracks/wind drifts etc and 4 or 5 hours on a couple of sleds have been known
to pack a suitable surface in the past.

Will keep you updated late into next week!

Cheers,
Wayne O'Shea

PS - now you can go shopping with your wife Saturday instead!! :o))
