Post by Angus McKenzie » Sat Feb 18, 2012 8:55 am

I received a call last night from Dirk Gidney , formerly of Guelph,ON
now living in S.CA..He is still hoping to sell his Rebel kit from its
location in Guelph. This plane has been modified by increasing the
fuselage height 4" from front to back (to enable a surf board to be
carried),wings are closed,no inspections completed,Turbo-Subaru
w/Ross/Warp combo.Dirk said he will stay in touch with me as his
location is transient so if anyone is interested in more info please
contact me off the list.

Wayne G. O'Shea

Modified Rebel for Sale

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sat Feb 18, 2012 8:55 am

Fuselage modification is not an issue with TC anymore since the latest from
the acting Chief of Standards in Ottawa states that "since the builder is
fully responsible for the finished construction and design of an amateur
built aircraft, the manufacturer of a kit does not need to be consulted in
reference to design changes or changes in gross weight" (I don't agree with
this tact, and feel you should at least call it a "Joe Blow Special", but
that's what he's said!). So as long as the buyer is happy with the fuselage
modifications there is no issue with MD-RA (well there is as they don't
agree with TC on this, but I have a copy of the letter from TC and they have
last say!) ....HOWEVER the wings being closed is another matter and although
in my eyes there is no reason why the inspector can't look at them with a
mirror on a broom stick and a flash light (since every rib has lightening
holes through it) good luck getting them to do so. Last thing I heard is
that they wanted these wings drilled open for inspection. Pig headed mind
set... since there's nothing they can't see with a mirror.... but if they do
it for one person they might as well get rid of the preclose inspection in
Canada, as they will then have to do closed wing inspections for everyone!

This kit is probably a really good jump start for a "lurker" in the USA....
where there are no pre-anything inspections and simply a final when ready to
fly.

Cheers,
Wayne
