I hate to do this to you guys adding seats, but I do so at least once a year
it seems.
The original application for C of A for your airplane was probably submitted
with "2" seats. If you didn't get a copy of the original paperwork from the
builder, it's hard to know without opening a can of worms and calling TC to
look in your aircraft's file. It is a mandatory box to fill out on the
application for C of A. Anyone that is still building and hasn't filled in
your Canadian applications for final inspection would be wise to put a 4
here whether you have only 2 seats or three. This will allow you full
flexibility after the fact and if it opens your inspectors eye just tell him
why you entered 4. Having it on file from the start is surely easier than
jumping through hopes after the fact trying to make your installation legal.
If I was in the "boat" of adding a seat after the fact I would take pictures
of the installation and print them out to paper. You will also need to do an
Weight and Balance amendment listing this third seat on the equipment list
and a sample loading of someone using the seat in a typical flight. Then
type a cover letter to Transport Canada office that is holding your file,
stating that per Murphy's sales literature you have upgraded your aircraft
to include a third seat for your child/etc...... please see pictures
attached, new weight and balance amendment... and please add the enclosed to
C-FXXX's file. Ball is now in Transport Canada's park and unless advised
otherwise you are legal at this point with your insurance carrier. You may
also want to do the calculation in Chapter 549 for min Horsepower required
and includ these with the paperwork as well, as it is seat related, but if I
remember correctly it works out to be only about 66HP for FOUR seats!
Doom and gloom Wayne !

I'm just installing rear seat belts for a third seat. I have made
gussets to make hard point for the seat belts. The most important part
of the seat installation is the belts. There is no rules for the seat
but the belts must be installed. I am planning on just putting in a
child booster seat for weights up to 40KG.
Some of the guys are putting in another rebel seat from MAM. They are
extending the rails from one of the front seat into the back for the
third seat.
Good luck,
Peter

Does anyone have recommendations for a back seat in a rebel?
