Brent Anderson will be at the Rebel Builders meeting this Sunday,
WITH some goodies you might be interested in -
2 1/2 lb. HALON fire extinguishers, with mounting brackets
$80 each - negotiable in quantity !!!
Bring money !! He has a box of a dozen, or so ....
Halon extinguishers are getting VERY hard to get, and the price is
right !!
------------------------
Also, I have good new from Rhodes & Williams - Bill Cameron
now has obtained even LOWER insurance rates for us Rebel drivers !!
Like 3% (or LESS) for FULL hull coverage, and $200 - $400 for
$1 Million liability (depending on passenger coverage) !!! Even on
amphibs ! This is a much-simplified policy, making it easier for all.
You can reach Bill at (905) 513-7600 if you are due for insurance
now (or just for an exact quote).
See you at the meeting !!

Bob
We know that the Halon is an effective fire suppression medium but isn't it
on the bad guy list for ozone depletion? Is this going to make it hard to
get the system re-filled in the near future? Don't mean to knock the
fellow offering the equipment but perhaps it would be prudent to ask about
the longer term viability of the system.
BTW, I read in an automotive (Race car) Engineering publication that
someone in the UK has developed a viable alternative which is being
installed in race cars these days.
Just some thoughts....

You're right, Dave ! Halon (or at least some varieties of it) IS
on the ozone hazard list. The less harmful variations are still available
for certain applications - computers, aircraft, etc.
Unfortunately, the less harmful Halon (903 ???) is also less effective
for firefighting !!
The extinguishers that Brent has are old stock units - at a VERY low
price, compared to the new, less effective Halon extinguishers.
Personally, I'm not too worried about re-filling the extinguisher !
If I get an in-flight fire, I will likely have many more important things
to worry about than just the cost of a new extinguisher !!!
These should be good for several years - I'll worry about it IF/when
the pressure drops too low to be useful....
My Rebel currently has a very small Halon extinguisher - about
1 lb !! Halon is really the only safe thing to use - a powder type
extinguisher would ruin the interior, instruments, and occupants lungs !!
The Halon should be ok - if you just open the windows.
Would be interested in hearing about alternatives, though ! :-)

Does anybody know if I can get this insurance out here in Vancouver, B.C. ?
Sounds like good coverage for a decent price.
