Getting back to work on the Moose

Post by Mike Davis » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:16 pm

Well I've had a lot of you urging me to get busy on my Moose again, and I'm
running out of excuses now. One distraction I had lately was the painting
of the fabric on my Quicksilver with poly-spray. Well I finally got it
done, took it back to the airport and re-assembled it. I only had time for
a couple of trips around the pattern that night and the following night we
had 40+ mph winds. Unfortunately one of my mooring straps broke loose...
the left wing let loose and as it was lifted up by the wind the right wing
tip and tail were driven into the ground. It ended up sitting on its back
with the right wing bent at a 90 degree angle half way out and the tail
sheared clean off. The only thing holding it all together was the flying
wires. The left wing wasn't damaged structurally, but there is a rip in the
fabric about a foot and a half long. The prop and the elevator push/pull
tube were broken also.

So without my MX to fly on those sunny afternoons I guess I don't have as
many excuses not to get busy on the Moose. Oh, unless it's to finish fixing
my Blazer which decided to blow a head gasket (or maybe crack a head... I
hope not) the same day my MX got blown over!

I could do without weekends like this!!!

Mike
