Looking at the pics of Wayne's plane on skis, something occured to me; Does the FAA, or Canadian authority, require some sort of endorsement or rating to operate on skis? Does your insurance company extract a higher premium for ski operations? Bear in mind that we don't do much ski flying here in Louisiana... Just curious. Those skis sure look like fun!

I don't think there is any required endorsement for ski flying in the US
either.

There is no "increased" premium for ski planes and it's the same percentage
as a wheel plane for hull insurance, as compared to the elevated premiums
for a float plane. I guess the insurers haven't taken into consideration
that a ski plane spends a lot of time on water as well and could sink the
same, but I'm not going to ask them their reasoning if you won't!! ;o))
