Can), so thought I would share it here as well.
Hope some of you can make it up/down or over, especially if the lake is
favourable for wheels (of you don't have "boards" on!)!
Wayne
weekHi Everyone!
Well this weekend is the weekend of our planned Ski Flyin. Hopefully
Saturday the 8th of Feb, from about 10 am until 1pm (or longer if a nice
day) Hamburgers will be on for lunch and coffee and pop available to chase
it down.
With this warm spat of weather we have decided to just go with MIDLAND
HARBOUR as the venue since St. Andrews Lake has a lot of run off that goes
on top of the ice, at times like this, and a blanket of snow later this
awould keep it from freezing up.
For those flying in, head for the grain elevator at the bottom of Midland
Harbour's basin. Then fly East up the harbour and just as the basin takes
"dent"big widening swing to the south, towards the large marina, there is a
W79-53-434.in the North shoreline (to your left!) and this is where we will be. For
those that want to do it by GPS head for my field at N44-47-906
propertyOnce you are overhead our field, that's on the penninsula of land between
Midland Harbour and Penetang Harbour, circle the field and find the
concession road that heads SOUTH from the laneway gate leaving our
it(for the directionally challenged, our Runway is 18/36 so start following
WestSouth and pick up the road!!). Follow the road South until it ends at
Midland Harbour (approx 1.6 mile) and we will be about 3 houses to the
willof the road on the North Shoreline below you. Will try to get a makeshift
windsock out on the ice, that will most likely be a traffic cone with a
broom handle and multi-coloured small windsock.
For those that asked about straight wheel landing, with the warm snap
tonight we may get lucky enough to entertain that, but no guarantees. I
andcheck the lake out on Friday and let you know how it is shaping up then
towill also post Saturday AM as to whether we're a go or not. Will transfer
theSunday, if Saturday is a no-go, and then to the following weekend if need
be.
For those driving in, from Fuller Avenue you can either take Midland Point
Road or Tay Point Road East until you hit a stop sign at CURRY Rd. Turn
Right onto Curry Road and follow it until you can't go any further and you
look like you are driving into Midland Harbour. There is a private road to
the right just before the bottom of the hill. Take this road and a couple
places down there is a vacant waterfront lot on the left that will have
snow banks pushed back for parking. Not sure if there is room but our host
Morgan Williams SR also has a laneway at his house on the back side from
this water lot.
Hope to see you there,
Wayne G. O'Shea
