Inside information

Post by Mike Davis » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:21 pm

Hi all,

I have been pretty busy recently working through the red tape involved with
certificating an experimental aircraft as amateur built. No, I haven't
managed to build a Murphy Moose in 2 months! In March I went back to
Illinois on vacation and purchased a Quicksilver MX single place ultralight,
dis-assembled it and shipped it back to Alaska (I wanted something "cheap"
to fly for those days it was just to sunny to be in the shop building!)... I
finally got around to putting it back together recently, and I'm registering
it as an experimental. It's a good learning process for all of us here in
Fairbanks... our FSDO hasn't done an experimental in several years, so
they're learning too. Hopefully this will pave a much easier path for all
of us building Mooses (Meeses?) here in Fairbanks.

Anyway in the course of my research I have come across a Microsoft Power
Point presentation that the FAA produced as training for their inspectors
and DAR's. It is presented from the perspective of what the inspector needs
to look for, but outlines very clearly everything the builder needs to do.
But it also gives the added information of what the inspector is going to
actually look for during the airworthiness inspection.

I wasn't really sure where to upload this file, so I've put it in the
software file area. I chose this file area since it appears under each
aircraft file group. You can also find it by doing a new files search.

If you're anywhere near finished, this is definitely worth the time it will
take to go through it. I should be done with all my paperwork for this
certification tomorrow... I wish I'd found it sooner! Just thought I
mention a word of caution, before you download this file and hit print...
it's 92 pages!
