Wingtips

Thanks for the help.

After hearing ( and seeing ) that the top is not cut out, I locked myself in the shop, cranked up Toby Keith, and attacked the problem.

I'm seeing that this bulletin board will be soooooo valuable!

Here is a report on testing of hoerner and drooped wingtips on a 150.
Summary is Hoerner is good for low speed and cruise. Drooped is not so
good and perhaps undesireable. The effect of different tips might
possibly be a bit more significant on our hershey bar wings.

Ken
thanks for the input, we have been pretty busy finding infos on wing tips
for the last few years and it seems that Hoearner tips are the more
performant.
From that standpoint we will be have them manufactured in Neuvville qc .
They are hihly specialized with Carbon Fiber with all the newest
techniques. I have somebody working on them at this moment. We will add
10% to the manufactuting price for designing (copying....!!!!) and getting
the molds ready nd whatever work is involved in preparing the whole works.
they willfit the Elite, Moose the Super Rebel.
The price will be according to the quotation we get from the factory plus
10% if anybody is interested ...just hauler. price will be kept at the
very minimum.
sincerely

Hello Gilles,
Has David Fife stopped making the wing tips?? I spoke to David late last year; he said he was working on wing tips for the Elite. A recent email has not been answered. If David has dropped out, then I am interested. I am also currently talking to Angus McKenzie about supply a wing cuff STOL kit; I will incorporate the leading edge wing cuff as I build my wings. Currently half way through building the right wing.
Kind regards,
Greg Elite 724

Greg
some body told on the site that he was nt naking tip for the Elite. However
,there is such a big diffence in weight that i will be getting mine done
with autoclaved (vacuum) c/fiber. Besides that a dropping tips stall more
abruptly and does nt warn you as much . Hoearner tips has an edge on the
other tips on top speed. and the stall speed is sligtly lower Dave makes
excellent tips, bt they are fiberglass, unless he would be willing to make
with c/f for us . Let me know.....

Greg,

I sure hope Dave is still making wing tips since I sent him a deposit a few
months ago. He did mention he is moving to FL; moving can ruin the best
laid plans of the most organized man. I haven't panicked yet. His old
phone # in MI still has his recording on it.

Wingtips

Gilles and others,
I, too, contacted Dave Fife last year and was told that his wingtips
would be available in late 2004. However, I am still working on the
ailerons and have not started the wings. I have not tried to contact
Dave so I am not up to date on his situation. One of the advantages of
his wingtips is that they could be ordered with mounts for landing
lights and red/green/white position lights molded in. Gilles, do you
plan to include the mounts for the lights?

Al,
Thanks for the info, I remember you mentioned something about the
wingtip fit in the past but I couldn't remember what it was.
Where is the rivet line that holds the tip on? Does it go through the
outboard rib of the wing or just through the skin along side the rib?
Thanks,
Mike Betti
