Murray,

For those of us who are 'not there yet'.... If you had the chance to do it over
again would you have any suggestions/recommendations/tips for building it
differently to avoid your situation?

FWIW my fuselage hole doublers around the elevator push tubes pick up
several of the rivets that go into the forward tailspring mount
bulkhead. In fact I even cut into the flanges of the bulkhead a little
to avoid using washers on the bolts through the elevator horns. I have
seen washers used on the bolts through the elevator horns to spread the
push tubes apart on several Rebels though so that is not an uncommon
thing to do. Personally I think the elevators should be 1/4" shorter or
the bulkhead should be moved rearward a bit to ease the fit but that
would be a factory thing I guess.

Hi Roger:

While were at this end of the plane, one more tip.
Drill and install the bolt for the tailwheel spring before bolting the FUS
87 in place. Read the manual carefully, I installed a FUS 86 here instead of
the FUS 87, it seemed to fit better with less filing to fit. Once you have
the bolts in for the FUS 87 you can't get the bolt in for the tailspring.

The manual shows a distance of 4 3/4" from the stab. attach fitting to the
first row of rivets for FUS 49. You could keep this back just a little to
say 4 1/2". This would however put slightly more stress on the tailcone from
the tailwheel spring. Maybe this is not significant.
I would definitely install the doubler on the tail cone. Modifying the hole
doubler around the push-pull tube here I don't think makes any structural
difference.

I don't like suggesting a modification of any kind. These changes are a
personal decision which may help other builders who do them at their own
discretion. If in doubt call MAM for their input to make a more educated
decision.

I am not a structural airframe techi in any way and I cannot recommend
making any changes whatsoever but I have included quite a few upgrades and
changes as suggested on this site.

Thanks for passing on your experience's. I will print this out and insert into
my builders manual as a reminder, when I reach that point. Currently I am
completing the floor channel install in the tailcone.

Hi Roger

If you haven't done the channels in the cabin floor, take a good look where
the seat rails go. The left side isn't very explicit so look at the right
side and by deduction you will figure out where the right side goes.A lot of
us have reconfigured the channels so that they go under the seat rails. Two
channels per rail either back to back or flange to flange.
