Hi everyone!
Ripping apart the "gear box" today for 3500 upgrades and before I drilled
off the door sills and pulled the old Fus-309's out, to replace them with
the Fus-705's, I marked the hole locations to allow getting the bolts in
that hold the Fus-310 saddles in place on the Fus-705's.
I found a really nice way to get the suggested 1" bolt holes in the exact
location required, by bending and slipping a glue gun stick (which is just
under 5/16"!) into the Fus-309(705) bolt hole and then letting it slip back
out. Where she hits on the lower sill wrap is where to drill the pilot hole.
Then open to an inch with a unibit or holes saw and you are ready for bolt
insertion when the time comes.
I also contacted Brian today in regards to front float attachment, before I
close this thing back up. MAM is going ahead with the "prototype" triangle
attach tabs as shown in the 3500 upgrade manual pictures, and seen by anyone
that attended S n F or Osh last year, and they are now available for
purchase. They are referred to as FL-400's and apparently a "kit" is
available with the longer bolts required to install them. Better now while
it's torn apart, than to try and get at those FUS-705 bolts again later. I
already had a parts order in to Elaine, for <another> Rebel rebuild, so
added a set for my Sasquatch to the order.

Wayne G. O'Shea

SR3500 - Fus705 to 310 bolts and float attachment
SR3500 - Fus705 to 310 bolts and float attachment
Hi Wayne,
The wrap for the belly (don't have the part # handy) on the 3500 upgrade is
cut in half for installation. I had Murphy roll the part so it fits tight to
the sill. Also when cutting the gear leg slot and FL400's we made three
slots, two for the float attach brackets and one for the gear leg. Murphy
used a large rectangle that when it pulled up around the sill is looks like
it gaps and bends rather sharp. Rolling eliminates the fit problem and the
slots look clean enough that I don't need a cover over the gear leg or the
float brackets.

SR3500 - Fus705 to 310 bolts and float attachment
This sounds like a good candidate for a photo to be uploaded. I for one
would like to see how/where you cut your slots. I for one think the
prototype looks like it's got a big hole in the side the way it is done now.

SR3500 - Fus705 to 310 bolts and float attachment
Thanks Al !! Kind of wondered about the merits of trying to put the supplied
flat .063 in place around a 6 or 7" radius. Something else to be pulling at
the rivets heads as it try's to return to it's flat shape, let alone trying
to pull it around tight to back drill the thing and rivet. I don't have slip
rolls (yet), but the local heating guy does as we had him roll a .040 wrap
for below the cargo door last year. Will see what happens and maybe go over
and get it rolled. I need an igniter for my oil furnace anyway, so I can
remove the one I "McGyver'd" on there last week!
As for the cut out, I looked at that with skepticism when I saw the first
picture of it. Cessna's suck in exhaust when the rubber seal gets rotted
around the gear leg. Can't imagine how much could possible come in through
that large hole, let alone the water when on floats. Had planned to keep the
holes as small as possible and seal around the edges with something
paintable in regards to the float fittings and mfg a rectangular rubber seal
for the gear leg.
